Our Story
Founded by brothers Ali and Bill Abdo, Melbourne Wrestling Academy exists to raise the standard of wrestling in Australia. With over 30 years of experience, the Abdo brothers bring Olympic-level excellence to athletes of all backgrounds — from kids and parents to BJJ competitors and pro fighters.
Meet the Founders
Ali Abdo
- First international competition at age 17 (Junior World Championships, Las Vegas 1998)
- Multiple World Championship appearances
- Long-standing National Team member
- Practicing Osteopath specialising in athlete treatment
A three-time Olympian who has represented Australia at the highest levels of wrestling, competing in the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic Games.
Bill Abdo
- 2010 Commonwealth Games Team Member (Delhi)
- Multiple State and National Championship titles
- Specialises in technical analysis and strategic coaching
- IT professional bringing analytical expertise to coaching
A testament to perseverance, Bill overcame early career setbacks to become a Commonwealth Games wrestler and National Champion.
